Continue reading »]]> Two of Cairns’ outstanding junior players (Sam Waite & Xiaoyi Lin) have been chosen to represent Queensland at the 2013 Australian National Junior Table Tennis Championships being held in Melbourne (September), after great performances in the Queensland Junior Championships in Brisbane last month where the boys won Silver medals in the under 15 boy’s teams event. Congratulations boys!

Cairns will also be represented at the 2013 Australian Veterans Table Tennis Championships being held in Darwin (also in September).

Congratulations to the following players for making it into the Queensland team: Eddie Lee, Rod (Rocket) Perry, Paul (Roadrunner) Uttley & Thomas Woltmann. Good luck to all players representing Cairns & Queensland!

Continue reading »]]> Table Tennis Cairns and the Cairns and District Chinese Association Inc (CADCAI) are teaming up on Sunday the 19th of May to offer a FREE joint open day to the public.  The event will be held at the Cairns Table Tennis Stadium, 99 Sheridan Street Cairns from 9am – 4pm and is open to everyone regardless of age, skill level or cultural background.

The day will offer free table tennis, free coaching as well as displays and demonstrations.  Chinese food and drinks will be available for purchase and all proceeds will go towards the local community associations.

This is the first time that the two local associations have teamed up to showcase the sport and the important contributions that Chinese people have made through Cairns’ history.

Everyone is welcome to come and have a look, try their hand at table tennis and enjoy the day.  Entry is free and we encourage everyone to come along.  It doesn’t matter whether you come alone, bring a friend or the whole family we look forward to seeing you on the day.

Continue reading »]]> Table Tennis Cairns will proudly be hosting one of the events in the 2013 Queensland Schools Table Tennis Championships at the Cairns Table Tennis Stadium on Sunday the 26th of May, 2013 from 8.30am – 3.00pm.

The competition is open to all primary (Year 4-7) and secondary in the area.  Schools can nominate as many teams as they wish with 2 players required per team.  The cost to enter is just $30 per team, and there are prizes up for grabs.

Continue reading »]]> Table Tennis Queensland in conjunction with Table Tennis Cairns will be hosting a training camp at the Cairns Table Tennis Stadium on Saturday the 1st and Sunday the 2nd of December 2012.  Table Tennis Queensland coach Graeme Townsend will conduct the camp in Cairns and participants of any age or skill level are welcome to attend as all abilities will be catered for.

What:                  Table Tennis Training Camp

Where:               Table Tennis Cairns – 99 Sheridan Street, Cairns

When:                 Sat 1st & Sunday 2nd of December 2012

Saturday:            10.00am – 5.00pm (beginners encouraged to attend at 10.00 am)

Sunday:              10.00am – 3.00pm

Who:                  Graeme Townsend from Table Tennis Queensland will deliver the camp.

Who can attend: Anybody can attend

Cost:                  Registration for Table Tennis Cairns members (and other Table Tennis Queensland members) is free, and the cost is just the regular session cost for each day of attendance ($5 for Cairns members and $5 for other TTQ members).

Registration for non-members is $50 plus the regular $7 session cost each day.

Continue reading »]]> Table Tennis Cairns is pleased to announce that it will be hosting a TOPS and Level 1 coach accreditation course on Saturday the 1st and Sunday the 2nd of December 2012.  The course will be delivered by Cathy Townsend, Table Tennis Queensland’s State Coaching Coordinator.

Those wanting to just do the TOPS Level course will only need to attend on Saturday the 1st of December.  The Tops course is ideal for people such as teachers, parents and active after school coaches to learn how to deliver Table Tennis coaching to beginner players especially.

Participants who complete the requirements gain a nationally recognised qualification.

Topics include:

• Session Planning
• Basic Techniques
• Drills, Games and Exercises

Participants who elect to do the Level 1 course will be required to attend both Saturday and Sunday, and they will also be eligible to receive the TOPS accreditation.

• Coaching Beginners
